Composting
SUFS has begun a composting program in conjunction with OCRRA (Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency). Each of our major dining operations has been given barrels that they are using to fill with any food waste. Once the barrels are filled, our drivers pick them up and deliver them to a storage container located behind physical plant. The barrels are then, cleaned and taken back to the units to be filled once again.
Physical Plant employees load the storage container onto a swaploader truck, drive to OCRRA to be weighed the food material is dumped for composting.
After the food waste is composted, it is made available for public use.
